Use 1080 × 1350 px (4:5) or 1080 × 1080 px (1:1) for feed posts, and 1080 × 1920 px (9:16) for Stories and Reels. Check every size below, then resize your image here without uploading it.

Resize an image

One still JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 20 MiB, 12 megapixels and 6,000 pixels per side. Processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Presets are common canvas shapes, not a guarantee of platform acceptance. Proportional resizing rounds to whole pixels; enlarging cannot recover missing detail. JPEG flattens transparency onto white. Animated formats are rejected. Original metadata is not copied into the new export, and the original file stays unchanged.

Width ÷ height = aspect ratio. 1080 ÷ 1350 = 0.8, which is 4:5

How to use this Facebook size guide

  1. Find the placement in the table above, and note its pixel size and ratio.
  2. Add your image to the resizer and pick the closest frame: 4:5, 1:1, 9:16 or 1.91:1.
  3. Choose whether to fit or crop, then download the resized file and upload it to Facebook.

Worked example

A 3000 × 2000 photo is 3:2. For a 1:1 feed post, crop it to 1080 × 1080 and keep the subject centred. For a link image, crop it to 1200 × 630 instead, so it isn't trimmed when the link is shared.

The best size for a Facebook feed post

On phones, taller images take up more of the screen, so 4:5 at 1080 × 1350 px and square at 1080 × 1080 px are the usual choices. Landscape images still work and suit photos that need the width, but they show smaller in a mobile feed.

Link preview images

Shared links use a 1.91:1 image, normally 1200 × 630 px. It's set by the page's Open Graph image, so fix it on the website rather than on Facebook. Keep important text in the centre, because the preview can be trimmed.

Cover photo and profile picture

Facebook displays Page cover photos at 820 × 312 px on desktop and 640 × 360 px on phones, so the same image gets cropped differently on each. Use 851 × 315 px or larger and keep key content in the middle. Profile pictures display at about 196 × 196 px on desktop and are shown as a circle.

Do Facebook ads use the same sizes?

Mostly, yes. 1:1 and 4:5 are the usual feed ad ratios, and 9:16 is used for Stories and Reels ads. Ads have their own specs for file size and length, so check Meta's Ads Guide before launching.

Common questions

What size should a Facebook post be?

1080 × 1350 px (4:5) or 1080 × 1080 px (1:1) are the usual choices for feed posts. Use 1200 × 630 px for link images.

What size is a Facebook cover photo?

Facebook displays it at 820 × 312 px on desktop and 640 × 360 px on phones. Upload at 851 × 315 px or larger and keep key content centred.

What size is a Facebook Story?

1080 × 1920 px, which is a 9:16 ratio.

Why does my Facebook image look blurry?

Facebook compresses uploads, and small images get stretched to fit. Upload at 1080 px wide or more, and use PNG for images with text or logos.
