Engagement rate = selected interactions ÷ selected audience measure × 100How to use this calculator
- Choose full Insights counts, or visible likes and comments if saves and shares are unavailable.
- Enter counts from the same post or Reel and reporting window.
- Select followers, reach or views as the denominator, then copy the labelled result.
Worked example
An illustrative post has 320 likes, 20 comments, 40 saves and 20 shares: 400 interactions. With 10,000 followers, that is 4 interactions per 100 followers. Using 8,000 accounts reached instead gives 5%. The figures differ because the denominators differ.
Engagement by followers, reach or views
A follower-based calculation compares interactions with the follower count. A reach-based calculation compares interactions with accounts reached. A view-based calculation uses views, which may include repeat viewing. Choose the definition that fits your report and keep it stable when comparing posts.
Visible engagement is a different measure
When researching a public post, you may only have visible likes and comments. Do not treat unavailable saves or shares as known zeroes. The visible-interaction option deliberately excludes those metrics and labels the result, so it is not mistaken for a complete Insights-based rate.
Interactions are not unique engaged people
One account may like, comment, save and share the same post. This calculator counts actions, so an interaction rate can exceed 100%. It does not calculate a unique engagement probability, verify follower authenticity, infer revenue or assign an unsupported good-or-bad score.

Common questions
Can I calculate engagement from an Instagram username?
This tool uses numbers you enter manually. It does not look up a profile or request an Instagram password. Use your own post Insights, or select the visible-interaction definition when only likes and comments are available.
Which engagement rate formula should I use?
Use the denominator that matches your question and state it when sharing the result. Interactions divided by followers, reached accounts and views answer different questions. None is a universal substitute for the others.
Can I use totals from several posts?
This form is designed for one post or Reel. For multiple posts, specify an aggregation method first: a mean of per-post rates is not necessarily the same as a ratio of totals. Summing post reach can also count the same person more than once.
What is a good Instagram engagement rate?
It depends on the account, format, audience, interaction definition and denominator. Compare a consistent measure over time or with an appropriately matched reference. This tool does not invent an industry benchmark or infer follower quality.
