Shorter duration + smaller frame + lower frame rate usually means a lighter GIFHow to use this video-to-GIF converter
- Choose a supported MP4, MOV or WebM up to 50 MiB and two minutes long.
- Select a segment up to 10 seconds, a 320- or 480-pixel maximum long edge, and 8 or 12 fps.
- Convert on the media server, review the animated preview and actual bytes, then download your GIF.
Worked example
A selected two-second segment at 8 fps produces approximately 16 animation frames. The server scales the long edge to no more than the chosen size without enlarging a smaller source, generates a palette of up to 128 colours, and creates a looping GIF. Timing and final size depend on the encoded output.
Convert MP4 to GIF without a browser encoder download
Your browser uploads the selected source directly to the media API. Native FFmpeg processing creates the animation and returns a real GIF download. The tool accepts supported MOV and WebM files as well as MP4. It does not download videos from social sites or process a remote URL on your behalf.
Choose a short loop with a clear purpose
A small product movement, screen interaction or repeated visual moment can work well as a GIF. Keep the section short and inspect whether the first and last frames loop naturally. The converter repeats the animation but does not synthesize a smooth transition, interpolate motion or automatically find a seamless cut.
GIF is not always the smallest video alternative
GIF has no audio and uses a limited colour palette. Complex movement, gradients and long sections can produce a larger file than an efficient MP4. Lower frame rate and smaller dimensions can help, but this tool does not guarantee an exact file-size target or photographic colour fidelity. Use MP4 compression when sound and video efficiency matter more than the GIF format.

Common questions
Can I convert just part of an MP4 to GIF?
Yes. Enter start and end seconds for a segment up to 10 seconds. Leave the end blank to use up to five seconds from your chosen start. The range must stay within a source no longer than two minutes.
Will the GIF include sound?
No. GIF animation has no audio track. Use the video trimmer or compressor when you need an MP4 with sound. The converter does not create captions or translate speech into text.
Which GIF sizes and frame rates are available?
Choose a 320- or 480-pixel maximum long edge and 8 or 12 frames per second. Shape is retained with even-pixel rounding and no upscaling. These bounds keep conversion work manageable; they are not a guarantee that a particular platform will accept the resulting file.
Does the converter upload or retain my video?
The source is uploaded to the media API for temporary processing, not stored in your media library. Files are removed after the response or failure, and abandoned temporary work is swept automatically. The result preview is local to the page; download it before navigating away.
