School should be fun. Kids shouldn’t be suffering through it! One of our 3 commitments to our students is that they WILL love school. If they don’t, it’s on us to fix it. And we take that VERY seriously. 🫡143.4K reach

Full conversation is linked in my story! A lot of questions from the last reel…71.1K reach

POV-a school where the kids make the rules. Our #1 commitment in every school we have is that “kids love school.” We actually survey our students about this and 96% answer yes. One of the ways we make this happen is allowing kids to make the rules. It’s not just in name only, the kids actually make the rules and vote on them. We’ve also found that when left to their own devices, students set higher standards for themselves and more ambitious goals than the adults would have. This is a small sample of our “Town Hall” meeting run by students, this particular one was to discuss cursing 🤬 and if it should be allowed or not allowed and what consequences there would be for it. The kids discuss, argue their points, and ultimately vote, with little to no adult intervention (even when the adults know it’s a bad rule or it will fail). It’s the students job to fix it or amend it at the next Town Hall.66.6K reach

The schedule- Morning Launch-15 min of motivation, brain-teasers, setting goals, light exercise, and puzzles to get us going for the day. Core skills Block- this is where we learn our math, science, reading, language arts, etc. It’s a 2 hour block on AI apps that are personalized to every student. The Adult Guides don’t teach academics, but are there for motivation, emotional support, and accountability. We use the pomodoro method, so we take a few short breaks to stay focused. Two short outside recess breaks happen in this time. Lunch-also outside, and we get 45 minutes for lunch. This is like our 3rd recess. Life Skills Workshops- these workshops teach financial literacy, grit, teamwork, giving and receiving feedback, and much more through real world situations. Our workshops are super fun and yet very challenging. These workshops are led and directed by our Adult Guides and they make our school unique. These workshops are highly creative and ambitious. Cleanup time and a group meeting where we shout-out and encourage each other before going home. Also we have a no homework policy. 😀56.3K reach

When your students use AI to excel in academics in only 2 hours a day, it frees up every afternoon for awesomeness. Think about what a school could do with every afternoon free from academics? And still be top 2% in academics!! This school (Texas Sports Academy) uses every afternoon for life skills workshops based around sports, but we have other schools that do gaming, gifted and talented programming, and much more! This is the future of education!24.1K reach

5th period = tire changing class! For the past 8 weeks, these students have been working on this every afternoon. We’re building life skills *during the school day* because we’ve streamlined academic learning so it takes up less time. Kids shouldn’t have to have a marathon day of after school activities just because our education system can’t figure out how to make learning more efficient!11.3K reach

Do you know a kid that wants to fish all day? Or take care of animals? Or grow and build things? We started a school that uses 2 hour learning to gives students their “time back.” And then use that time to teach life skills outside. It’s called Waypoint Academy in Dripping Springs, TX. Waypointacademy.school. Since I grew up on a farm myself, this school gets me super excited. What do you think? 🐑🐓🐇🍅🎯🫛🌱🪵5.3K reach

Bringing back life skills one kid at a time! I could’ve made this video an hour long with all the awesome workshops our students participate in, but here are just a few. One of our commitments to families is that kids will genuinely love school. We poll kids regularly on their answer. If they’re not loving school, we make changes. Instead of having adults teach academics, our adult guides design hands-on workshops that teach real-world life skills. It’s never just “donate a meal to a food bank.” It’s taking full ownership of the entire process: 📖 Find a recipe 📝 Create a detailed shopping list 💰 Stick to a budget 🛒 Navigate the grocery store 🧼 Master safe food handling practices 🔪 Prep and cook the meal from scratch 🏷️ Design and print custom packaging labels 🍱 Portion out meals into to-go boxes 🤝 Coordinate team roles across the whole class 🚗 Deliver a warm, home-cooked meal to the food bank Our goal is to prepare kids for real life! 🙏 By the way, we are now open in 50+ cities across the country. 😁 I hope there’s a school near you!

This check is super important because it allows our students to learn that they can do anything if they keep trying. This is the life skill of “grit,” which is mostly missing in kids today. Yes it is hard. Yes some kids struggle with it, and they get frustrated, even cry, while some kids pick it up easier. If you pause the check chart in the video, it has all kinds of checks-some academic and some life skill based. Another kid may easily pass other checks and have to work for a long time to get this check. It’s amazing to see the satisfaction a kid has when they struggle to do something they didn’t believe they could do, then finally achieve it! #juggling #kidsofig #lifeskillsforkids

During a regular school day, 8 year olds are learning what it’s like to practice emergency medicine. Skills like suturing, bandaging, and assessing wounds are just as valuable as learning how to multiply polynomials or identify alliterations! 😜 Our model of education emphasizes real world skills starting in pre-k. Life skills workshops are adapted to age-appropriate benchmarks. For this specific workshop, younger kids don’t suture but instead, they learn 6-step first aid procedures. Putting on gloves correctly, cleaning wounds, applying bandages, fitting arm slings, etc. We love watching their innate passions and talents blossom!
